The Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration was a period spanning from around 1900 to 1920. Captain Robert Falcon Scott, Sir Earnest Shackleton, and Roald Amundsen became household names during this period. However, there's an incredible story of someone you've almost certainly never heard of.

This man's strength and determination helped saved the lives of 28 men stranded in Antarctic after their ship, The Endurance, was crushed by ice. On another expedition, he saved the lives of two other men that would have died without his brave actions. He was one of the last people to see polar explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott alive, after he perished on his return journey from the South Pole. Later that same year, he helped to find Scott's body and buried him in the ice. He spent more time on the ice than Scott or Shackleton.
His brother was shot dead, and he risked the same fate if he spoke about his exploits. As such, he took his stories to the grave, not even telling his daughters about his time in Antarctica.
