Can you believe it's 20 years since Cast Away was released!? A classic Tom Hanks film, from the year 2000 featuring.... Wilsonnnnn (a volleyball)! Chuck Noland (Hanks) finds himself marooned on a desolate island in the Pacific after his plane crashes. With no way to escape, and accompanied only by his handmade volleyball friend Wilson, Chuck must find ways to survive in his new home.
Cast Away is a must-watch classic film. It's available for £4.99 here. It comes with a warning though; do not watch this film if you don't want to find yourself fighting back tears over a volleyball!
You can learn to light your own friction fire like Chuck. We'll also make lunch on the fire, including baking bread and cooking a hearty vegetable soup and build shelters out of natural resources. More details available on this link to the Fire-lighting & Survival Skills weekend.
Instructor Ross Bowyer is a bushcraft and survival expert and he'll be sharing his expertise with us. He's both learned from and taught some of the most famous faces in the industry as well as indigenous tribes you may not have heard of! We'll learn to make friction fires with a bow-drill (see photos), cook our own lunch in the woods and make natural shelters before retiring to a cosy pub.
