November 2020: Rabbit Proof Fence by Doris Pilkington

You can find a copy of Rabbit-Proof Fence here.

This is an incredible tale, very inspiring, but unfortunately quite sad too.

The author is Doris Pilkington, and she tells her mother's true story. Doris' mother, Molly is a young girl in the 1930s when she's captured by the Australian Government's authorities to be taken to a settlement where they are taught to be 'culturally white'.

Molly's younger sister and cousin, Gracie and Daisy, are also captured and they are forbidden to speak their native language and are being forced to abandon their aboriginal heritage.

The girls escape and follow the rabbit-proof fence that stretches across Australia. This is their incredible story whereby these young girls (aged 8, 11 and 14) walk over one thousand miles across unforgiving terrain to make their way back home.

I'm really luck to have a copy of the book that's signed by Doris dated June 2006, who died in 2014. This is a great book, and quite a short read. It's also a film. You can find a copy here.
